Dr Tao Liu

Originally trained as a medical practitioner specializing in neurology, Associate Professor Tao Liu obtained a PhD degree from The University of New South Wales. He joined Children's Cancer Institute Australia for Medical Research as a Senior Research Officer in 2003.

Since 2004, he has been focusing his research on the roles of histone modification proteins, transcriptional super-enhancers, long noncoding RNAs and RNA methyltransferases in modulating gene transcription and tumorigenesis, and the roles of histone modification inhibitors and super-enhancer inhibitors as anticancer agents.

More recently, with funding support from the US, Associate Professor Liu has established a novel small molecule compound screening strategy to discover drug-like small molecule compound inhibitors of tumorigenic RNAs and their modification proteins for RNA-based cancer therapeutics.
