Dr Charis Teh

Dr Charis Teh is a Victorian Cancer Agency Mid-Career Fellow and Senior Research Scientist at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI). She holds a PhD and BSc (Hons) from the Australian National University (ANU), and a Master of Public Health from the University of Sydney, with postdoctoral training at Stanford University and WEHI. Dr Teh leads a research team investigating how cellular kill switches can be harnessed to improve anti-cancer responses.

Using transgenic mouse models and cutting-edge profiling technologies, her work maps networks of life and death proteins in cells to identify potent, druggable targets. She has published 36 peer-reviewed papers and secured over $4 million in competitive research funding. Recognised for both scientific excellence and leadership, Dr Teh has received multiple awards including the Australia-America Fulbright Scholarship, the Superstar of STEM Award, and the AIPS Victorian Young Tall Poppy Award. She is also a passionate science communicator and advocate for women and girls in STEM.
