Dr Ruth Pidsley

Dr Ruth Pidsley leads the DNA Methylation Biomarkers group at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research (Australia) and is a conjoint lecturer at UNSW Sydney. Her group’s primary research focus is the role of epigenetics in the prostate tumour microenvironment. Their goal is to use epigenetic information to improve cancer diagnosis and prognosis, so that patients can receive the correct treatment.

She graduated with a degree in Human Sciences from Oxford University, before studying for an MSc/PhD in epigenetics at King's College London. In 2013 she transitioned to cancer research, joining Professor Susan Clark’s Epigenetics Research Lab at Garvan, and established her own research group in 2018. Since moving to Australia her research has been supported by major funding bodies including the NHMRC, Cancer Council NSW, Cancer Institute NSW and Tour de Cure. She has published over 40 high quality and highly cited publications (>7,000 citations). Ruth’s contributions have been recognised by prestigious awards including the Tadion Rideal award for the best PhD in molecular sciences across King’s College London (UK).
