Professor Anna DeFazio AM

Anna DeFazio heads the Gynaecological Oncology Research Laboratory at the Centre for Cancer Research, The Westmead Institute for Medical Research. She holds the Sydney-West Chair in Translational Cancer Research, University ofSydney at Westmead Hospital. Anna is also Director of Sydney Cancer Partners, Convenor of the University of Sydney Cancer Research Network and co-leads the Ovarian Cancer Stream of the Daffodil Centre, University of Sydney, a joint venture with Cancer Council NSW.

Anna completed her PhD at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, University of Sydney, undertook postdoctoral studies at the Garvan Institute and established a program of ovarian cancer research at Westmead in 1995.

Anna has a long-standing commitment to translational research with an emphasis on improving treatment outcomes for women with ovarian cancer. She is on several Research and Scientific Advisory Committees including the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group, Ovarian Cancer Australia, CellBank Australia and the Australian GynaecologicalCancer Foundation. She is an investigator on research consortia including the Australian Ovarian Cancer Study (AOCS), the International Consortium for Low-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer (ICLC) and she is the lead investigator on INOVATe, a state-wide precision medicine program focused on molecular profiling and improving outcomes by linking ovarian cancer patients with molecularly targeted clinical trials.
